Dana Adobe Capital Campaign Continues in High Gear

Nipomo, California – March 13, 2006 – Dana Adobe Nipomo Amigos (DANA) got another boost in its capital campaign with a $5,000 contribution from Crystal Oaks Development. Klara Bergman, a managing member of Crystal Oaks, presented the check at the DANA monthly board meeting on behalf of the Crystal Oaks Partnership, which includes Ms. Bergman and Messrs. Roger Rieger and Gregg Nester.
“This generous donation helps us keep up the momentum that we have been building in our capital campaign.” said Herb Kandel, president of the DANA board of directors. “With each donation, our dream of creating Rancho Nipomo historic park around the Dana Adobe gets a little closer to reality.”
The initial thrust of the campaign is to restore the 13-room Dana Adobe to the way it was when completed in 1851 by Captain William G Dana. Distinguished as the most historic residence in the County of San Luis Obispo, the structure is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is designated a California State Historic Landmark (No. 1033).
DANA’s ambitious vision for the historic park includes the recreation of Rancho Nipomo much as it was in the mid-nineteenth century. Preservation of this magnificent landscape is now a fundamental component of the DANA mission. Toward this end, DANA is in the final stages of acquiring 120 acres of land surrounding the adobe. Plans include the reconstruction of outbuildings that were part of the original rancho as well as the construction of a visitor center and museum.
“We cherish and value the history and culture of the community of Nipomo,” said Ms. Bergman. “We wanted to step up and do our part to help preserve this irreplaceable historic site.”
