Volunteers play a key role in advancing the DANA vision of restoring the adobe and creating an historical park at Rancho Nipomo.
Our volunteers stuff envelopes, help with office work, feed and groom the burros, make phone calls, and distribute flyers and posters. They work at adobe events such as Heritage Day, the Saturday Talks, and the annual benefit dinner — setting up and cleaning up, selling tickets, and manning merchandise and membership tables. And they represent the adobe at public events such as the Nipomo Chamber of Commerce Octoberfest, handing out adobe information and generating excitement about the DANA vision. Our building site committee volunteers help with major cleanup projects that involve repairs, minor carpentry, construction tasks, and planting.
Our docents give tours of the adobe, conduct historical research, demonstrate rancho-era cooking, dancing, branding, and other activities, write articles, and give seminars and lectures. Click here for more information on the docent program.
Some of our volunteers take over responsibility for a particular function such as fundraising, public relations, accounting, education, website operations, information technology, and more. Some participate a few times a year, manning booths at Heritage Day, selling merchandise at the Saturday Talks at the Adobe, or making crafts to sell at Christmas at the Adobe. Others help with special projects such as writing grant proposals.
However volunteers participate, their combined efforts help make the adobe what it is today: a place to experience the Central Coast’s illustrious past, participate in today’s educational and fun events, and build Nipomo’s future with Rancho Nipomo Historical Park.
