Welcome back to the blog!

We are so excited for our NatureFest event is coming back in 2025!

At Dana Adobe, we are always looking for opportunities to provide access to learning and to give you and your family a chance to make memories that will last a lifetime.  NatureFest brings Children and Nature together!  It is a wonderful chance to experience a day of fun, learning, and adventure all while supporting our very own Nipomo local business community.  Come take part in our arts and crafts, local food and music, nature-themed science projects, and of course guided hikes through the rancho for the whole family.  Best of all, NatureFest is full of innovative, earth-conscious displays and nature activities for you to experience all day long!

Here are just a few of the unique and memorable experiences you and your family can enjoy at NatureFest:

Bake Treats with Solar Power

We will be debuting a large Solar Oven built by one of our volunteers!  Come help bake cookies and possibly even a cake in this oven that runs exclusively off of solar power.

Start Your Own Garden from Scratch

Did you know that this year Dana Adobe completed the planting of 1300 plants on the Rancho?  This project was funded by an EMMP Grant that aims to reduce water usage in the State of California over a period of several years.

In the spirit of learning and conservation, you can visit our Planting Booth at NatureFest to plant your very own plants!  We will provide seedlings and containers for you to plant them in, as well as a presentation on pollination and how your new plant will contribute to the ecosystem.  Take it home, transplant it into a pot or garden, and watch it grow!

Trade Your Way Through the Rancho

Want to do business like Captain Dana did in the 1840’s?  Grab a Trading Post Passport and head to each one of DANA’s booths to learn more about life on the Rancho, participate in a nature activity, and discover nature on a different level! Collect stamps at each Trading Post along the way, and collect your reward at the end of your travels!

Talk with the Animals

Our friends at Pacific Wildlife Care are bringing their animal rescue friends to show us!  They will be giving presentations to help us learn more about the animals, their needs, and the rescue organization.

See What the Owls Ate for Lunch

Find out what our hoot-i-licious friends ate for lunch by dissecting one of the regurgitated pellets from the indigestible parts of their prey.  This fun project is a great, hands-on way to learn more about our local ecosystem and the circle of life in the animal kingdom.

NatureFest began in 2016 when our volunteers noticed a need.  Dana Adobe was already providing group tours and field trips for local schools and community groups, but we wanted to be able to give more kids access to the Rancho and the learning it provides.  With the help of the local community, Dana Adobe and its wonderful volunteers created NatureFest, and established it as an annual event coinciding with Earth Day in April.  Our Community Center was now provides the perfect backdrop for our NatureFest activities.

Mark your calendars for this event!
